Unfortunately for many women fighting breast cancer the decision to have a breast reconstruction surgery is one they never thought they’d have to make. This fall, in honor of those fighting and surviving the disease Beverly Hills Physicians is choosing to give back. A portion of all our breast surgery proceeds in October will be donated to a local charity that benefits breast cancer awareness and screenings. Through these contributions, we hope to join in with the national effort to detect cancer in its earliest form and to ease the burden and physical toll of cancer treatment.
Breast cancer treatment is a significant and relevant cause for our surgeons. While choosing an elective breast augmentation is by no means equivalent to a breast reconstruction following cancer, Beverly Hills Physicians and our patients understand that feeling beautiful and secure in one’s body is important. In fact, the Beverly Hills Physicians team believes breast reconstruction has a major effect on a woman’s recovery process. After a mentally and physically demanding cancer treatment process, breast reconstruction can make a woman feel like her ordinary self again. We hope that through our charitable efforts, we can make this process at least a little bit easier and less stressful for those women going through breast cancer treatment and reconstruction surgery.

Additionally, year round we partner with The Bra Recyclers to collect new and gently used bras to be donated to women in need, including survivors of breast cancer and domestic violence. All sizes and styles of bras will be accepted. To contribute, simply drop off your bras at one of our locations in Beverly Hills, Encino, Thousand Oaks, or Rancho Cucamonga.

Revision Breast Surgery by Dr. Cat Begovic

This is a 26 year old female who in 2006 had silicone breast implants placed under the muscle. However, she had a large amount of separation between her implants which worsened when she raised her arms or contracted her pec muscles. Her pec muscles were anatomically wide apart so placing the implants under the muscle in her caused the separation which was almost 6 cm. To provide better cleavage, Dr. Cat removed the old implants from their previous location, closed the old pocket under muscle and created a new pocket on top of the muscle. Because the pec muscles did not limit the amount of cleavage she was able to create, Dr. Cat was able to place new implants closer together. The patient’s post op results show her cleavage greatly improved with only 2 cm between her breasts.
Doctor Spotlight: Catherine Begovic, MD
Dr. Catherine Begovic, “Dr. Cat” is one of few female plastic surgeons in the U.S and practices in Southern California. She was voted one of “2010 America’s Top Plastic Surgeons” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America and nominated for the “2010 Woman of the Year in Medicine & Healthcare”.She believes in the importance of communication and is committed to taking the time to understand the individual needs and desires of each patient. She feels a close bond with her patients and never takes for granted the patient-doctor relationship of mutual respect.
What is your background?
I grew up on the East Coast and was involved in medicine and scientific research at an early age. I was a Westinghouse Scientist Finalist and presented my first research project at an international engineering conference when I was a junior in high school. I studied Molecular and Cellular Biology graduating with honors from Harvard University and completed my medical school education at UCLA. I completed two surgical residencies – one in Head and Neck Surgery/ENT which involved cancer and reconstructive surgeries as well as facial plastics, and a second residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. I also have a passion for medical research and have published or presented over 40 articles ranging in topics from molecular biology, cancer, anti-aging, skin care, fat stem cells, to vaginal cosmetic surgery.
What is your specialty?
As a female plastic surgeon I specialize in body contouring procedures such as abdominoplasty, liposuction, breast augmentation, as well as vaginal cosmetic surgery. Being and ENT and plastic surgeon I also perform rhinoplasty surgery in conjunction with airway corrective surgery.
What inspires you?
There is nothing that inspires me more than the relationship I have with my patients. As a doctor, I value the trust that patients place in me to perform their life changing experience which is their surgery. I feel privileged to be a part of the intimate personal thoughts going into surgery, and celebrate with them their excitement about their results after surgery. I have kept a close friendship with my patients years after their surgeries and it is one of the things I value most about being a doctor.
What do you like to do when you are not in the operating room?
I am a new mother so spending time with my baby and my husband are my priority when I’m not working. My husband who is a TV athlete, fitness professional and owner of a nutritional supplement company and myself are passionate about health and exercise so we spend our free time working out at the gym and eating healthy.
