Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery

Buttock shape and proportion are critical to overall beauty of the body. Beverly Hills Physicians offers fat transfer to the buttocks to nearly every patient who undergoes liposuction. This procedure is also known as a “Brazilian Butt Lift” or Buttock Lift. Instead of using uncomfortable and unsightly/unnatural buttock implant, we use your own fat, which looks, feels, and is most natural. Many times this can be combined with a full body makeover including tummy tuck and breast augmentation It is important to perform buttock fat transfer at the time of liposuction because once the fat has been removed, the patient may never have enough fat to shape and rejuvenate the buttocks in the future. By using the fat in shaping the hips and buttocks, the waist-line and hips become very curvaceous. This enhancement rejuvenates the whole body silhouette. The skin of the buttock becomes tighter, clothes fit better, there is an anti-aging effect, as well as a lift effect.

Implants vs. Fat Transfer

The preferred method for performing buttock augmentation is fat transfer, the use of the patient's own body fat to reshape the butt. Fat injection achieves a more natural result, has a lower risk of infection, and also contours the areas around the buttocks to enhance the overall effect. The lower back and hips can be sculpted to enhance and further exaggerate buttock fullness when required. However, implants may be recommended for patients who have very little body fat to harvest, such as body-builders and naturally thin patients. We are awaiting construction of an ideal implant. As of yet, we prefer to use your own fat for the most natural results possible.

Buttock Augmentation with Fat Transfer ("Brazilian Butt Lift")

Buttock augmentation with fat transfer, also known as the “Brazilian Butt Lift” in honor of the country in which it was developed, involves two steps. First, the patient's own fat is collected through liposuction. The most popular areas for liposuction before buttock augmentation are the lower back, waist, flanks (love handles), thighs and stomach. This not only provides the proper amount of fat cells for buttock enhancement, it also contours the areas around the butt for a more dramatic result. Liposuctioning the small of the back creates a beautiful curve that makes the lower back curve in while the buttock projects out. The combination is dramatic and very flattering. The liposuctioned fat is then purified in a special process so that the best quality fat is ready to be reintroduced back to the body.

In the second step, the donor fat is added to the buttocks with hundreds of tiny injections at different depths to ensure an even, attractive augmentation. This method of fat injection lends a shapely contour to the buttocks that lasts a long time. Special attention is given to each person’s body shape so the entire rear looks youthfully and naturally lifted. Each patient’s results will be customized to what would look best for each body frame. The fat is injected in multiple layers (muscle, right under the skin, and deep between the skin and muscle) for the smoothest results.

Buttock Augmentation with Silicone Implants

Buttock implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes to best fit each patient's body type and desired goal. They are made of soft silicone, which provides a firm, yet smooth and natural feel. They are placed away from important nerves as well as the bony area on which you sit. The upper and outer regions of the butt become rounder and firmer once the implants are in place. The procedure takes about two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Incisions are made inconspicuously in the depression between the buttocks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is fat transfer the preferred method over implants?
  • Fat transfer is the safest and most natural way for buttock enhancement.
  • Buttock implant technology is not as advanced. Implant revision and removal rates are high. If removal of implants is necessary you may be left with loose and sagging buttock soft tissue, which many not be correctable.
  • There is a 90% removal rate with implants.
  • Fat transfer leaves a natural feel when you sit. With implants it can feel like you are sitting on two wallets.
  • Implants can shift up into the back.
Can you explain more about how fat transfer works? I am concerned about where the fat comes from.
  • Fat is taken from other parts of your body with Liposuction.
  • There is a 70 to 80% fat survival rate.
  • Our doctors will over compensate for the fact that your body reabsorbs some of the fat. After about 3 months, you will be able to see the actual results. Note: The pictures on the website are 3 months after the fat was injected.
Other than a lift what other results can I expect?
  • By using the fat in shaping the hips and buttocks, the waistline and hips become very curvaceous. The skin of the buttock becomes tighter, clothes fit better, there is an anti-aging effect, as well as a lift effect.
  • Fat transfer to the hips and buttocks also improves the appearance of cellulite.
What if I don’t have any fat in other areas to Liposuction?
  • Our specialists can find fat anywhere. The doctors are miracle workers for those thin patients who want a fuller buttock. In some cases, they may suggest a person gain anywhere from 5 to 10 lbs.
