Carson Liu, MD, FACS

Dr. Carson Liu is a Board Certified General Surgeon and a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery with special training and experience in Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery. He has performed more than 1,000 bariatric surgeries since 1998. Dr. Liu was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery at UCLA Medical School in 1998. He has conducted extensive research and is widely published in the fields of Bariatric and Gastrointestinal Surgery. Nationally recognized in Gariatric Surgery, he has lectured extensively to professional societies.

Dr. Liu is skilled and experienced in performing minimally invasive surgery for both gastric bypass and LAP-BAND® placement, although he says he doesn’t prefer one over another. "Both work well and give patients a choice in what is best for them," he says. "Losing weight is only part of what we do. I have a vision of treating not just obesity, but other diseases such as diabetes and sleep apnea. Surgery for weight control helps reverse disease processes and that is very exciting," he adds.
